Hunt on for new CEO

Slow progress in the new world

Cricinfo staff

October 8, 2008

More than six months after the USA Cricket Association elections which were supposed to herald a new era for US cricket, concerns are beginning to grow that nothing much has changed.

In the elections, Gladstone Dainty was narrowly returned as president of USACA but several senior posts were filled by candidates new to the USACA board, having not previously served with Dainty, and as a result a number of his close allies were voted out of office. It was expected that would produce a balance on the executive that would ensure that the previous two years' virtual stalemate would be ended.

However, there are increasing signs that progress, if any, is proving hard to come by.

One of the biggest criticisms of the old board was its almost complete failure to share information with stakeholders. In the immediate aftermath of the elections there was a flurry of activity on the official website, but this has now been reduced to a trickle.

However, John Aaron, the new executive secretary of USACA, told Cricinfo that despite only one meeting of the board having been held since the elections in March, efforts are currently underway with regard to establishing the job requirements for the position of chief executive officer. Aaron added: "We are optimistic that the position can be filled before the end of the year."

It had been expected that the new post of chief executive officer would be in place by now as USACA itself set a deadline of September Without a CEO , the association will not be eligible for a number of ICC grants.
